Steel Plant Automation – Plate Shear Line
The customer was exploring options to automate the Plate Shear Line to increase the line speed. The changeover from old system to the new one was scheduled to be completed within one week.
Implementation
The project required synchronising all line drives with the main shear drive with cut-to-length functionality. The required cutting length accuracy was 5 mm for plate length up to 10 meter.
Deployed Siemens automation systems comprising:
- S7 400 PLC with function module
- Remote IO stations
- Master drives
- HMI MP277
- ES for drives
- ES for PLC
- Two OS with WinCC SCADA
Outcome
The customer could achieve:
- 10% increase in line speed
- Easy troubleshooting
- Reduction in manpower & operational costs with centralised operation
- Changeover from old system to new in four days
